Srinagar, Aug 24 (KNO): In a major breakthrough in the recent loot and thefts in HMT and its adjoining area, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s west zone on Tuesday recovered stolen properties worth around Rs 25 lakh. Police said that it has busted a gang of thieves who were involved in thefts and loot in the area from some time. The thieves were acting government forces in the night hours and on the pretext of CASOs, used to loot jewelry, cash and other valuable items. Superintendent Police (West Zone) Perbeet Singh while speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that a major gang of thieves donning combat uniforms and dummy weapons were operating in the area and so far during the course of investigation 10 people involved in the theft and loot have been arrested and around Rs 25 lakh of worth stolen property has been recovered from them. He said that they received a complaint from two individuals from Maloora and Hokersar area of HMT, claiming that a group of people in combat dresses with weapons on the pretext of ‘Cordon and Search’ locked them in a room and looted jewelry, cash and other valuables from them. “A special team was constituted by the SP West, and under the supervision of SDPO West Muzaffar Jan accompanied by the SHO Parimpora and other police officers worked out on a strategy to reach out on to substantial leads,” he said. While sharing the details, SP West said the recoveries include, dummy weapons, combat uniforms and iron rods. “More arrests and recoveries are yet to happen,” he said—(KNO)
